Authorization to Build

…a septic system. So read the subject heading of the email from the Hays County Development office. Some tasty click bait. It wasn’t a total hook, line and sinker. We do now have the only government permit we need to start building. But, since we’re part of an “HOA”, we just need their approval and then we’ll be off to the races. In the meantime, we’re submitting all final papers, signatures, more papers, spreadsheets, all our money to the bank to get our loan closed. We’ve been dragging our heels on finishing the process until we “know” we’re ready to start digging, since the clock of the construction loan starts once we close the loan. They give us a year or so, but since construction is prone to delays, we didn’t want to prematurely sign months away of our build window.

People say the longest part of a building process is the pre-construction, i.e. waiting to get “started”. That phase where you have nothing to show when people enthusiastically ask you “How’s it going?” The planning is going excellent, thanks. I’ve made significant breakthroughs in the selection of wood species and combinations of stains and cabinet styles. I’ve learned a ton about the R-value of all my insulation options. Yup, it’s going great!

When are you moving in?

Great question. That’s rhetorical, right?

So, we plod on, septic permit in hand, waiting to obtain our next permit, from the Village of Bear Creek. We’re feeling optimistic, hopeful, and well supported. Thank you to all the friends who’ve given us advise, encouraging texts and tools!
